Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between.

Reflexology is about promoting relaxation and balance through the stimulation and massage of Reflex Points in the feet, or sometimes on the hands, or ears. These Reflex Points are linked to other areas of the body. By applying gentle pressure to these Reflex Points, tension or congestion in the body can be released encouraging the body’s natural healing process to begin.

Some of the general benefits of Reflexology are:

  • Relieves stress and tension

  • Helps to release physical pain
  • Aids recovery from illness or injury
  • Encourages good circulation and digestion
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Encourages the release of toxins from the body

However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment. A full health and lifestyle consultation will be carried out before the treatment but, if you are at all unsure if Reflexology is suitable for you, please check with your Doctor first, alternatively do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to ask any questions prior to booking an appointment.

I am a member of the Association of Reflexologists and am fully insured.

Further information about reflexology can be obtained from the AoR website http://www.aor.org.uk

What Happens During a Typical Treatment

Before your first appointment I will invite you to have a 30 minute telephone or video (zoom) consultation with me, during this time we will dsicuss your medical history, lifestyle and what you would like to gain from the treatment. It's a great opportunity to get to know a little about you and it enables me to be fully prepared for when I meet you on the day of your appointment. We can also discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

On the day of your appointment, I will get you comfortable on the couch, make sure you're warm enough by providing a heated under blanket and extra blankets if needed, put on some relaxing music, and begin the treatment.  In addition to working the reflex points I like to incorporate lots of massage into the treatment as I find that this is very relaxing and warms the feet.

After your treatment I will give you some water, this is very important as it will help to flush through any toxins from your system. We will then discuss how you found the treatment and I will give you aftercare advice.
